Off season: take a proper look at your Hyrox year

28 July 2026ROXWALL4 min

No race number before September, no time to defend. The off season is the only moment when you can face your season honestly, understand what actually cost you time, and decide what comes next.

The only moment of the year when you can look back

During the season everything moves too fast. You stack training blocks, race, feel disappointed or satisfied, and the next one arrives before you ever understood what happened. In summer the calendar empties out. It is the only moment when you can open your results without a race number waiting three weeks away.

A serious season review takes an hour. It is probably the highest return hour of your training year.

Step 1: gather every race

Start by pulling up all your participations, not just your best one. On ROXWALL, searching by name returns every race you have done, with your total time, your ranking and above all the detail of each segment.

For each race, note three things: your total time, how it felt on the day, and the context (short preparation, injury, heat, first time on that format). Without context, numbers often tell the wrong story.

Step 2: read your station times, not your total

The total time tells you almost nothing usable. A Hyrox race is sixteen timed segments plus the time spent in the roxzone, and that is where the real information hides.

Four things to look at:

  • How much your runs degrade. Compare your first kilometre to your last. A 30 to 45 second gap is normal. Beyond 90 seconds, you have a pacing or endurance problem, not a speed problem.
  • Your cumulated roxzone time. The back and forth between stations and track often adds up to several minutes across the race. That is free time to reclaim without getting any stronger.
  • Your most expensive station in absolute terms. The sled push and the wall balls are the two stations where gaps between athletes blow out the most.
  • The lag effect. Look at the run that follows your hardest station. If it is consistently your worst kilometre, the station is not what costs you, what it leaves behind is.

Step 3: pick one weakness, only one

This is the most common mistake in a season review. People identify five areas to improve, try to work on all of them, and progress on none. A well used off season fixes one thing.

Ask the question this way: which segment, if I gained two minutes on it, would change my total time the most? In most cases the answer is running, simply because it makes up half the event. Then comes the roxzone, then one specific technical station.

If you need reference points to place your level, our article on what counts as a good Hyrox time gives the ranges by division.

Step 4: decide next season now

The 2026/2027 calendar is already public, and first editions fill up fast. In France: Bordeaux from 30 September to 4 October 2026, Nice from 29 October to 1 November, Paris from 12 to 20 December, Toulouse in early February 2027, the Grand Palais in April and Lyon in May.

Pick one main race and, if you can, a warm up race one or two months earlier. A season with a clear target beats six races you simply endure. Our four week comeback plan is built around that exact calendar.

Step 5: get the patches out of the drawer

There is one object almost every finisher stores somewhere and never looks at again: the patch. It ends up in a box, a drawer, a gym bag pocket, sometimes still in its original packaging.

Yet it is the only physical proof of what the season asked of you. Not a file, not a screenshot of a leaderboard: an object.

At ROXWALL we make hexagonal frames in France, designed for those patches, carrying your name, your time and your colours. The pocket adapts to each season's patch format, and the magnetic mount lets you hang it on a wall or stand it on a shelf without drilling anything. Once you have a few, the hexagonal alignment tells a whole season at a glance.

The workshop this summer

One practical note: the ROXWALL workshop is on its summer break until 24 August 2026. Orders stay open throughout, and frames are made and shipped as soon as we are back. Until 31 August, the code SUMMER gives 10 % off, which is a good moment to frame the patches from previous seasons while the calendar is empty.

For any question, we are reachable at hello@roxwall.fr and on Instagram.

Where's your patch?

You crossed the finish line, now display it. Create your custom hexagonal frame and turn your HYROX achievement into wall art.
